Let´s Talk About Blue Star Families

Actualizado: 21 feb

In this edition of “Let's Talk About” we have an organization founded by military spouses in 2009, to empower military families, who face unique challenges and sacrifices, to thrive as they serve their country. By facilitating meaningful relationships between military families and their neighbors, individuals, and organizations, Blue Star Families works to create vibrant communities of mutual support.

This organization offers various programs and resources to help military families overcome the isolation and alienation of frequent moves, deployments, and reduced support from the government. Some of these programs are:

  • Blue Star Books:  To foster a love of reading and learning, this program provides free books to military children.

  • Blue Star Caregivers: A program that provides critical peer support and resources to caregivers of wounded, ill, or injured service members and veterans.

  • Blue Star Museums: From Memorial Day to Labor Day, this program offers free admission to more than 2,000 museums across the country for military families.

  • Blue Star Outdoors: To promote health and wellness, this program connects military families with nature and outdoor recreation.

  • Blue Star Summers: With virtual camps, concerts, and festivals, this  program provides fun and educational activities for military families during the summer months.

  • Blue Star Volunteers: Engages military and civilian volunteers in service projects that benefit their communities.

Among the above benefits, you also have “member perks”, ranging from free annual subscriptions to world-class services such as Headspace and MasterClass to exclusive discounts and coupons.

Blue Star Families also conducts innovative research on the issues and needs of military families, and advocates for policies and solutions that improve their quality of life. Through its annual Military Family Lifestyle Survey, Blue Star Families collects and analyzes data from thousands of military families, and shares the results with the public, the media, and the government.

If you are a member of an American military family I really encourage you to join this network of approximately 275,000 members. The benefits that your free registration includes are worth it. Remember, you don't have to go through this journey by yourself; Blue Star Families is there for you to ensure that wherever your family goes, you have everything to thrive: connection, support and empowerment.
